A done to death story served differently. That?s what makes Jaane Tu Ya Jane Na? refreshingly delightful. The film makes you laugh, cry and fall in love as the three hour old drama unfolds on screen. What really worked for Jaane Tu?are the well etched characters that connect to you immediately. Every actor delivers a commendable performance and it?s a pleasure to see the casting director completely in sync with the storyline and the director?s needs. Of course the simple narratives work as an add-on.
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is the love story of Jai (Imran Khan) and Aditi (Genelia). They are best friends, whose lives revolve around each other. So close are the two pals that everyone around them thinks they are in love. However, for Jai and Aditi, their friendship is platonic or at least they believe so until, of course, Meghna (Manjari Phadnis) and Sushant (Ayaz Khan) come into the picture. Jai thinks he has found the love of his life in Meghna, and Sushant is Genelia?s Mr. Right. They realize soon enough that they are drifting away from each other. How Jai and Aditi get out of their romantic mess and discover their love for each other forms the core of the film.
Director Abbas Tyrewala needs to be complimented for packing together this simple love story with intelligence. Expectations rode high on Imran Khan and he sure has not let us down. He makes a decent debut and sensibly abstains from going over the top. Genelia D?Souza as the fighter cock ?Meow? is delightful. Her expressions are worth a mention, and so is her performance. Ratna Pathak Shah is superb as always, and Naseeruddin Shah is simply adorable as the true -blue ?Ranjore ka Rathore?. That apart, Nirav Patel (Jiggy), Alishka Varde (Bombs), Karan Makhija (Rotlu), Sugandha Gargh (Shaleen) and Prateik Babbar (Amit) leave a mark.
The climax goes a little over the top but overall, Jaane Tu? is immensely enjoyable and high on entertainment, especially for the youngsters. |
