The Amitabh Bachchan- Ramgopal Varma combination is back again with RANN, after their last success with SARKAR RAJ. A Vistaar and Religare presentation of a Cinergy production the film is being produced by Madhu Mantena, the producer of the box office spinner, GHAJINI, and Sheetal Talwar. Paresh Rawal, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Sudeep, Mohnish Behl, Rajat Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Gul Panag, Neetu Chandra, Suchitra Krishnamurthy, Rajpal Yadav and others make up the impressive cast of RANN. The film is an expose on the television media and the games played to get the “TRPs” ticking. Vijay HarshVardhan Mallik (Amitabh Bachchan), the founder of the first private news channel, is a righteous media person running his channel which delivers credible news to people. Mallik feels a personal sense of responsibility to his countrymen and hence believes in holding truth upright. His arch rival is Amrish Kakkad (Mohnish Behl), a former employee of Vijay’s channel, who has taken over “news television” like a storm and has the viewer ship numbers moving up in his favour. And to achieve numbers he doesn’t mind trampling the authenticity of news. Vijay’s son, Jay Mallik (Sudeep), is ambitious and can’t digest the fact that Amrish’s channel is racing ahead in viewership. He believes his father’s channel must pull up and make profit out of news, which obviously means the numbers would have to be jumped. Jay designs a plan which would take him to the top. Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal), a politician yearning to take the prime post of the country takes advantage of Jay's ambition. But the fulcrum of his plan rests on using Vijay's robust credibility! Purab Joshi (Ritesh Deshmukh) who works for Vijay and idolizes him is shattered and frustrated when he discovers the truth behind the story that shot Vijay’s channel to number 1. Will Vijay take on his own son in his quest for justice and truth……is the story of the film.
