What strikes you the second you meet Himesh Reshammiya is his belief in himself and his overt optimism. At no point does he ever say it's impossible, irrespective of the harsh criticism that comes his way. Everything is possible and achievable for Himesh Reshammiya, and this is probably what makes him unique…

I'm supposed to be meeting him at his place, but due to some urgent work for his forthcoming film RADIO, he has to leave at the same hour as our scheduled rendezvous. Instead of canceling, he requests me to do the interview in his car, while he drives to his destination. The minute I step into his plush dark BMW, he rattles off a long apology for the last minute change… Calling it off would’ve been worse, I tell him as we settle down to our one-on-one.

Recently, I happened to read that RADIO has already recovered its investment via its music and satellite rights’ sale. Must be quite an exhilarating moment for him…

“The profit and loss account of RADIO is here in black and white and yeah, the music rights, satellite rights and the video rights, all three have been sold, so the producer is already in profit; whatever comes from the theatres is additional benefit. For me, this is not really important, though. I'll be happier if the film is appreciated. It is a different film, in terms of its sensibility. It is made for the multiplex audiences. Luckily, the music is doing extremely well, let's see now…” he says with a straight face.

His tone doesn’t sound excited at all. Do the figures not matter? “I would like it if people appreciate my work in the film,” he says, again with a straight face. “As an actor, I have tried to grow, I have tried to do workshops for this character, I have tried to improve myself and have tried to live through all the problems of my character RJ Vivaan, so that it looks believable. I am playing a confused character in the film, who is solving other people's problems but in reality he is the most confused of them all. His own wife has given him a divorce due to incompatibility issues, there is another girl he meets, so there is a love triangle too set in the film. It's a romantic comedy and I'm really looking forward to the audience's reaction.”

It has been three years now since he ventured into acting. His first film AAP KA SURROOR clicked with the masses; however, his second offering KARZZZZ failed at the box office and his acting was criticised big time too… Isn't he worried about the fate of RADIO; whether he will once again be accepted as an actor? “AAP KA SURROOR was a hit and I was very happy with it,” he says in the same monotone, “And KARZZZZ was a flop so I was not happy, though some people in media liked it and also gave three star ratings to the film. Now I think I shouldn’t have done the remake of KARZ. Now I’m doing films whose characters suit me and are more believable. I am trying to get into the skin of the characters, attending workshops and improving with every film. In RADIO, you'll see I'll be better than what I was in KARZZZZ. These workshops that I'm attending are helping me to be as natural as possible in front of the camera. I think when you are acting there should be no pretense. To do natural acting is the most difficult. Over-the-top acting doesn't work, at least with the multiplex audience. So I'm trying to do entertaining films which are more in the believable zone rather than going over the top.”
