Asin Thottumkal, the girl who won everyone's heart with her spirited performance as Kalpana in GHAJINI, is pretty similar to Kalpana in real life, too. In fact, she exhibits the same exuberance even while doing interviews, which is pretty surprising given the fact that none of the HiFI denizens are really kicked about these regular tête-à-têtes.

“You know, I'm enjoying my work so much that I find complete pleasure in doing whatever it is for my films that I'm doing, which also includes doing interviews and other publicity work. So, I'm very happy doing that!” she says with the broadest smile. Wish the excitement quotient was similar with the other tinsel townies too.

Almost a year after the release of GHAJINI, she already has another big film, LONDON DREAMS coming up…Wonder what the experience has been like so far.

“I can describe the experience in one word - fab! The Hindi film industry, Mumbai, everyone has been really, really nice to me. I feel very much at home, I am comfortable here. Also, to get mass appreciation from the public for your first venture itself, is a big thing. I think that’s the most important thing that anybody looks for and I never expected this!” She takes a pause to breathe and continues, “I mean, there was not only a lot of public appreciation but also appreciation from colleagues. Whenever you are working, wherever you are working, you would want your colleagues to appreciate your work and that happened really well in my case which is great because a lot of people had told me that industry mein friends banana mushkil hain…”

True, friendship can easily be termed as the most abused word in this industry. Finding genuine friends is an almost Herculean task. You would never know which so-called good friend of yours was actually backstabbing you!

“It was not an issue for me, be it with seniors or with my contemporaries,” she points out. “I really have been warmly welcomed here. For example, at one of these awards functions, Amitji came up to me and complimented me, Abhi (Abhishek) and Ash (Aishwarya) also came and greeted me. Sush had me in this full bear hug and refused to let go off me and she had all these kind words to say about Kalpana in GHAJINI. Preity just came right after I got my first award; I was stepping down from the stage and she just came and said ‘Welcome to our industry!’. So I think it was very nice of these people to do that; I mean, they are seniors and they don’t really need to come and even talk to me.”
